Small Business Support
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers entrepreneurs assistance in management training via seminars, workshops, and courses ranging from management to technical skills; no-cost one-on-one assistance to discuss and evaluate ideas for starting a new business or to receive an honest appraisal of a current business’s performance; networking and referrals to local, state, and federal agencies to answer business questions; and a variety of free reference and resource materials developed by the U.S. Small Business Administration as well as access to an on-site computer to develop a business plan or examine sample plans.

In addition to the SBDC resources, the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce has a variety of programs that assist small businesses in the immediate area, including networking events and leadership training.

Coffee County and the City of Douglas offer our businesses 100% Freeport. This means that raw materials, goods in process and finished goods bound for out-of-state shipment that are held in factories and warehouses in Coffee County are 100% exempt from County ad valorem taxes. Sales tax in the county is 7%, which includes a 2% local sales tax.

Counties in Georgia have a variety of state incentives available to them, many of which have special provisions for Tier 1 counties such as Coffee County. The statewide incentives include tax credits, discretionary programs, cost-saving programs, and sales and use tax exemptions. In Georgia, job credits provide as much as $3,500 in annual tax savings per job for up to five years. They are available to businesses (or their headquarters) in seven strategic sectors:
